The prestigious San Miguel Writers’ Conference, a leading international literary event, recently hosted an exciting literary exchange between Asgardian Member of Parliament and author Ariadne Gallardo. Armida Zepeda is the director of the International Festival of Writers and Literature in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. During their meeting, Gallardo presented Zepeda with a copy of Room Space Journal of Asgardia, marking the beginning of potential collaborations between Asgardian literature and the literary community in Mexico.
The San Miguel Writers’ Conference serves as a vibrant hub for writers and readers from Mexico, the United States, and Canada. Its mission is to inspire and connect individuals through the art of storytelling, fostering creative dialogue and professional opportunities. Gallardo’s introduction of Room to Zepeda underscored the importance of bridging literary and scientific discourse, as well as expanding the festival’s scope to include more science-themed narratives.
Room is a fully independent cross-disciplinary journal that covers all aspects of space exploration. This prominent journal offers its readers various fascinating stories, written by those directly involved in science, cutting-edge research, space law, and business. Zepeda expressed her appreciation for the magazine, recognising its potential value for writers and readers interested in scientific and cultural reporting. The conversation between the two literary figures extended to the role of science fiction in inspiring young minds and cultivating an interest in science and aerospace topics.
“You’re talking about the science fiction genre, which is fascinating—I love it, and we have already featured it in our festival,” Zepeda remarked. “I can tell you about Gerardo Cifuentes, an illustrator and cartoonist, as well as Carlos Coatl Sandoval, our contest coordinator, who also writes science fiction. However, incorporating science itself into our narrative programming is something we haven’t yet explored, and I think it’s a fantastic idea.”
Zepeda shared her experience at the International Book Fair in Guadalajara, where she observed a growing openness to science within children’s literature. “After speaking with you, I am considering how we might make this idea a reality. Organising an event like this with the right people and the high-quality standards our festival upholds would be a challenge worth taking on. I appreciate the suggestion,” she added.
Gallardo expressed her gratitude for the warm reception and shared a motto of Asgardia, the First Space Nation she represents: ‘One humanity, one unity’. “As an Asgardian writer, I believe in this guiding principle, and it is always important to strive toward it,” she noted.
This literary dialogue at the San Miguel Writers’ Conference highlights the growing intersection between science and literature, fostering new opportunities for collaboration and inspiring future generations of writers and readers alike.
